Way of the Wickeys made it to the World Youth Day website

We are getting close to Santiago now. I think we have about 5 or 6 more days, so that means we will be there this weekend!!!! It´s hard to believe how many kilometres we have walked so far. I think it is somewhere close to 700km. The body is sore, but we are all still in good spirits and looking forward to our arrival in Santiago.

Leighton is currently on his way from Porto, Portugal. We can´t wait to see him and find out about how the Portuguese route is.
On a side note, I´m hearing all sorts of exciting news about the Canucks. We watched some highlights online, but I know it´s not the same as being in Vancouver right now. I guess Game 5 is tonight...we´ll have to wait until the next town to google the final score.

Leighton is on his way
Today is the day that Leighton flies from Vancouver to Lisbon. Aiden, Mark and myself are really excited that soon all 4 of us will be on the same continent again and that Leighton will be starting his camino soon. Leighton will rest for a day with the help of one of my friends in Lisbon (Thanks Mima!!!!) and then he will be on his way.
Tonight we are in Astorga, which is a beautiful city. It´s small but very lively and there are lots of chocolate and sweets stores! We were lucky enough to sample a little of all the different chocolates!
Tomorrow is another day. Same routine: wake up, breakfast, shoes on, walk, walk, walk, drink water, walk, siesta, eat, sleep. It´s much more excited and beautiful than that, but it´s also so hard to put into words. The weather is becoming a bit more variable as we get closer to the end. It rained a lot last night so it meant muddy pathways this morning. The mud caked to the bottom of our shoes and was a little bit slippery, but it´s all part of the camino experience.

We are in Fromista, a bit of a sleepy town, but quite popular with pilgrims and tourists...

The Camino is quite a well-established pathway. It is well marked and also very importantly, it has plenty of fuentes (fountains) for potable water to keep us hydrated.
